I remember getting on the bus one day on my way to teaching a craft entrepreneurship course on how to use Etsy. I had the first seat right across from the bus driver and I was reading my notes, he said ‘you look really interested in what you are reading, I’m curious, care to share?’ I told him that I was on my way to teach a course on how to make money from your craft using Etsy. Immediately, he said, “really? I thought artists are supposed to not care about making money, they are supposed to do it for the love of the art!”
That stopped me in my tracks. Of course, I didn’t agree with him. I now have a mindset more connected to the thriving artist and not the starving artist but that statement is not all lies. Love does motivate us to make art!
